running a business should give you joy.

It shouldn't crush your soul.

I became my own boss out of absolute necessity.

At 26, I found myself stuck in an incredibly stressful corporate job surrounded by miserable people 4 days a week. I was also trying to complete a nutrition degree and run a busy home-based lash salon.

When I fell pregnant with my first child, I knew things had to change. I had recently been diagnosed with stress-induced high blood pressure and I needed to put my health and happiness first, for myself and my family.

I gave up the security of a pay check in pursuit of a simpler life.

With a baby on the way, I wanted to choose the hours I worked and spend more time at home.

At first it certainly didn’t turn out that way! Starting your own business and navigating those early years is a huge learning curve. But as my team grew and I developed my leadership skills, I experienced the freedom I’d been longing for.

Six years, two kids and a commercial premises later, my business is thriving. And I’m happy, so happy.

It hasn’t been perfect or easy to achieve. Scaling a business is hard and assembling a great team can be time consuming and costly. But I’ve learnt so much along the way. And as the business has grown, I’ve been able to be there for my family as we faced some pretty big hurdles.

2018 was a tough year for us. My four-year-old son was diagnosed with epilepsy. At the same time, my husband was undergoing testing for multiple sclerosis after finding a lesion in his spinal cord, causing him intense pain. I found myself juggling multiple medical appointments and tests along with kinder commitments all while caring for my 10-month-old daughter.

It was during this difficult time that I reflected on the business I had built from the ground up. And I felt proud, really proud. I was able to be there for my family, because I was off the floor and confident that my team could easily take care of the customers and my business.

I felt relieved that I could step away from the business without worrying about losing clients and losing income.

My team knew what was expected of them and were genuinely invested in the success of the business. And that’s because I had spent time investing in them, always making sure they were happy, fulfilled and looked after.

Having a committed and empowered team means I’ve been able to go on maternity leave or overseas family holiday minus the worry and stress. In fact, these days I am mostly off the floor apart from the few clients I keep to maintain my skills and cover sick days.

I know many women like me who are trying to juggle all the things. Feeling guilty they can’t do it all. Feeling chained to their business – exhausted, miserable and alone. Worried that if they hire their first employee or step away from the business for a day, something will go wrong.

I want to change that.

I want to empower women to run thriving beauty businesses that give them the freedom and fulfilment they crave. Because running a business should give you joy, not crush your soul.

I believe our work environment is the foundation on which our business either thrives or dies. And I credit my team – past, present and future – as my greatest business achievement.

If you’re tired of feeling restricted rather than liberated by your business, I’m here to change that. I’d love to help you become the business owner you need to be so you can stop stressing and rediscover your spark. Let’s work together to reignite the passion you had before it all became too hard.

Because having a business shouldn’t be hard, at least most days! Instead, it should be fulfilling and joyful. You deserve to bring an infectious energy of happiness and contentment home to the people you love most in the world.

Let’s make that happen.
